Te Tiriti O Waitangi...

The Maori population in the late 1830s was about 70,000 - 80,000. The population had dropped mainly due to wars and disease. The name of the main settlement in Aoteroa new Zealand at this time Russell.  The rangatira and missionaries were unhappy with how much alcohol was being drunk. Sovereignty means having your own control. The Maori believed that they would have control over their own land. After they signed the treaty the British people thought that they had control over their land. By Aone...
